Biodesign research - Collaboration with Valentine Maurice 2025

In the Anthropocene era, where human impact on the planet is undeniable, how might design help decentralise our perspective and consider other forms of intelligence?
To address this, we propose a collaboration with the living world. Our goal is to redefine our communication with plants, observing their sensitivity, specifically, their photosensitivity. Rather than using plants as resources for consumption, we aim to engage with them as partners, mediating our relationship with natural elements.
We are developing material surfaces that react to sunlight, capturing the sun's imprint within the material. This serves as a metaphor for collaboration between humans and non-humans. The project explores parallels between how humans perceive light, beyond mere vision, and plants’ photosensitivity, promoting a symbiotic connection with the living world.
